Fighting with People, Rolling with the Punches & Moving on Quickly when things TURN SOUR!

Probably the direct opposite of some of the funny fight scenes in Family Guy - in Business when relationships go sour it can be best to move on fast and forget about it!

Probably the direct opposite of some of the funny fight scenes in Family Guy – in Business when relationships go sour it can be best to move on fast and forget about it!

I met with a great friend & client today (who shall remain nameless, but she knows who she is and the respect I hold for her).  We spoke about many things and she had a rough experience in her business.  Basically, someone she has worked with for a long time and that person just “Turned” on her, leaving her quite sad about coming out with the raw end of a business deal.

She was great today when we spoke and boy I could relate to her in business.  Probably about 7 – 8 times in my business life, I have had business relationships go sour with people turning on me or trying to take advantage of me.  This isn’t much really compared to the hundreds of relationships I have which is great.

Even though 7 to 8 times over a few years is nothing, like my friend – it certainly doesn’t feel like nothing when you are going through the process.  I have had great experiences (like my friend) of people using me for free work, taking my referrals and then back stabbing me, not paying invoices and even trying to just bully me / push me around for the sadistic fun of it.

As we shared our experiences, there was a great sense of humour in the air. Recently I had a similar experience.  I was helping a few different people, giving up lots of my time, I didn’t do things exactly the way they wanted – and I got quite a nasty malicious bite from a few of them.  It was quite upsetting too actually and as we compared notes, we joked and basically laughed it all off.

A big epiphany for me and my awesome friend was how quickly things can turn.  A few weeks ago I was down a few clients early January and now my workload has exploded (it instantly swung for the better).  My friend and I were working with other people and it was great, then things just broke down quickly (it instantly swung for the worse).  I had a day where I won a big client, had someone ring up and yell at me, then picked up another client and got a massive testimonial in (it swung for the better, a little for the worse and then a massive swing for the better).

Basically, we found this very funny and this is modern life in Sydney.  Things can swing on a dime for better or for worse and what we realized is that you have to make changes very quickly and get over things very quickly.

For example, we both got burned in deals and instead of worrying about it for months, we just moved on very quickly.  Then, instead of “Thinking about it for weeks”, we just got over it in a few hours and moved onto bigger things.  The reality is that as stuff happens in the face paced city, you gotta be ready to pick up opportunities and can’t let bad things drag you down.  Otherwise, you can miss lots of good things if you are in a “Bad” place to do it.

My advice? If people / deals turn nasty on you get out quickly.  Then forget about them ASAP and move onto the next best thing.  Life is short, there are always more great opportunities out there and can get rid of those negative emotions and replace it with happiness.

Love your work, this is my Friday night blog article and depending on when you read this, I hope you have some great relaxing times!

“Cease this OR ELSE!” – Protecting Your Brand, Identity & Assets from a Marketer’s Viewpoint!

Protecting your Brand Assets and Identity is a critical in running a sustainable business and Suzanne Harrington is a trusted friend in this area. Getting the 'takedown' letters is not fun, so speak to her and cover yourself!

Protecting your Brand Assets and Identity is a critical in running a sustainable business and Suzanne Harrington is a trusted friend in this area. Getting the ‘takedown’ letters is not fun, so speak to her and cover yourself!

Putting on my more “Marketing Hat” on this article, I have had some interesting conversations with my awesome colleague Suzanne Harrington.  She is a friend of mine who is a Trademark Specialist and spends a great deal of her time protecting her clients Identity, Logos, Names and the like.

She also spends her time helping clients defend themselves when they get “that letter” that tells them to take something down by another company that claims to own it.  When I work with clients, quite often we have to build things from scratch.  I have helped people name their companies, products, develop personal branding and even given lots of critique as to their logo design & colours.

One thing I always say to my clients when this is done, is “Please check with someone like Suzanne to ensure that you can use this and get away with it!”

I have had clients design logos that look like Intel, Apple, Boost Juice Bars and when I work with them – I am usually on their case making sure they don’t get a funny letter 8 – 12 months from now telling them to cease using it.  I have had some clients that previously got into lots of trouble in this area. Be it having to change company names, redo their logos and throw out lots of printed materials.

If you are in business and you are planning on being around for a long time and having quite a large profile / footprint, I think it’s very important to get some checks done at the very least when it comes to your Naming Convention & Identity.  Doing a Google & ASIC Company Search is a start and it gives some information to help business owners to evaluate how much risk they are taking on.  This doesn’t provide any significant protection however in itself (and it’s good to be honest with yourself on that front).

A good example of this is say if you are promoting your business on Facebook. You can say be seen thousands of times per day and you only need one person to “Catch You” and take some form of action against you.  I know people this has happened too!  Who knows whether this will happen to you or not and this debate is almost in the “Insurance” type of discussion (i.e. “I am healthy so I don’t need Health Insurance?”).

In all objectivity from my own viewpoint, some business owners will have trouble justifying the protection for their own potential risk level (rightly or wrongly).

HOWEVER – if you are say spending lots of money and taking something quite seriously – it’s worth speaking to a Trademark Specialist big time.  If you are saying going to spend tens of thousands on all of your marketing materials from Websites, to Business Cards, to Product Boxes, to Booklets and the like – I think it’s really important to get that layer of protection in right away.

If you are reading this article and getting nervous by what I am saying thinking that you may get “a letter” or run a good risk of it happening, I would strongly suggest you do something about it and get some professional advice in this area.  I have proudly promoted my Trusted Friend Suzanne Harrington many times and you can visit her Company Website Pinnacle TMS right here.

Love your work, thank you for the read and trust this helps you on your Profitable Quest for Glory!

I was very lucky to be working away and spending time with Joel Curtis the Psychologist today.  If you have followed my blog for a while, you may have seen some of his great guest blogs, learned about his charitable nature and me make reference to his awesome wife Annie who is a Community Officer with the Red Cross Blood Bank.

When I visited his office today, he told me about a problem that the Blood Bank encounters about February every year.  Basically, most regular donors donate in 3 month intervals.  As you have Christmas / Holidays an obvious disruption to donations / life, the bank often runs dry about this time of year.

Right now Blood cannot be artificially replicated and quite often transfusions go to cancer patients.  Be it my lovely fiance Jude had a child that almost killed her (and she relied on transfusions to save her life) and my own own awesome mother who fought cancer for years.

Basically, I am quite close to the cause and I am all for doing my part to help with the cause!

If you would like to book in and join us for this group donation, the details are:

“Get Up & Manage Yourself!” – Compelling Guest Blog by Alfred Bellanti

Alfred Bellanti - Kind, Good Natured, speaks the Truth. Having friends like him rocks and I am proud to have him Guest Blog on 'The Edward Files!'

Alfred Bellanti – Kind, Good Natured, speaks the Truth. Having friends like him rocks and I am proud to have him Guest Blog on ‘The Edward Files!’

It must have been a few years ago now, I was very lucky to meet a humble and kind man at 4Networking.

He was aged, very softly spoken, had a nice smile and you know you could instantly trust him.  Basically, he felt like someone you “knew for years”.

I could also feel a sense of pain and hurt from him too.  You could feel his kindness and equally feel the pain & suffering he has had in life.  His name was Alfred Bellanti and we stayed connected on Facebook and LinkedIn.

It wasn’t going to be for quite a long time that we would meet again and although I didn’t interact with him that much, whenever I did – it just felt great.

What I liked about him was his own honesty.  He told the truth about him suffering from depression and I liked it.

I have never quite suffered from depression, but PTSD (“Post Traumatic Stress Disorder” – thank you Australian Government x x), anxiety and panic attacks I used to get really badly. Thank god I am pretty good these days.  As we spoke and caught up again, I invited him to guest blog on “The Edward Files”.  Alfred was quite humbled and as a new blogger, I think he has written a compelling piece.  I trust you enjoy it right here!

Get up and Manage Yourself! – Guest Blog by Alfredo Bellanti:

I am writing this blog straight from the heart and straight from the soul, I’m not sure what the difference is – but they are two separate words. A lot of this text comes from my personal experience and from reaction to events and statements I hear from other people.

This time in particular I refer to some interaction that took place during a live webinar from Edward Zia – “Awesome Business Thinking for Fun, Money and Getting More Done.”

At this stage of life I am an author and struggling entrepreneur. Most of my life I have been in employment. The last 22 years I was struggling with part time work and trying to build a Hypnotherapy Practice. Therefore the title of Edward’s webinar was very appealing.

At the start of the webinar Edward introduced Jude Dowsett who among other accomplishments had also been a Natural Therapies Practitioner.  During the course of the webinar as Jude was talking Edward jokingly mentioned “I need therapy”. This struck a chord within me for 3 main reasons:

1. Edward’s sense of humour.
2. Everyone needs some sort of therapy at one stage of life, especially those that insist they don’t.
3. I have been a Clinical Hypnotherapist for the past 22 years.

Anyway, I ramble. Edward said at least three times during the webinar “I need therapy!”

Then Jude started to talk about Self Management and that set me off! I reacted by making the comment “I need someone to manage me!”

Edward appreciated this honest statement and replied by pointing out how important Self Management is. “Someone to manage me” … The statement still resonates in my brain!

As an entrepreneur it is easy to outsource. You can outsource to graphic artists, marketers, answering services. An author can even outsource his writing for heaven’s sake!

Do you think you can outsource management of yourself? Is this possible?

From my point of view there are three key attributes to Self Management:

• You have to be very focused
• You have to be very organized
• You have to have a plan on which to work

Long ago, when I had regular jobs, the only self management necessary was to get to the work place on time. The rest was “easy” and required no self management skills at all.

Here is an example typical work day back then.

1. Get to the workplace
2. Open the shop shutters
3. Get cash float out of the safe and count it.
4. Set up the cash register
5. Check store for dust, straighten displays etc …
6. Serve customers
7. Accept, unpack & check deliveries
8. Stack shelves
9. Organize lunch hour
10. After lunch serve customers
11. Towards end of day clean the shop floor
12. Close store, count cash, separate the takings from the float and check the figures against cash register record.
13. Place cash in the safe
14. Exit the store and lock shutters.

The point I am making is that there was no need for self management at all because the time was managed for me. Being an Entrepreneur requires a whole Self Management paradigm.

Contribution of ideas to this discussion are welcome.

Edward’s Post Blog Commentary:

What a cool guy? In a world which can be full of fluff and BS, you have Alfred telling you the truth about what he has been through.  This is integrity driven and you know and I know it – so many people out there are struggling and they just lie to you and make out they are famous.

BUT not Alfred.  He is very cool and I love his style.  A kind man and whatever I can do to help him kick butt.

I have lived in my car several times in life – my longest stint when I was about 30.  Great.  It sucked, but it’s the truth.

My advice? Check out his book and download his stuff.  He rocks! Thank you for the read and love your work from Edward Zia!

Tips for Increasing the Quality & Value of Your Clients! (Insights from the Vault)

Getting higher value clients is not being an Eric Cartman and just whacking up prices - it's about giving way more so it's a fair trade!

Getting higher value clients is not being an Eric Cartman and just whacking up prices – it’s about giving way more so it’s a fair trade!

Right now I am sitting in my dark room by candlelight.  The power has gone out which has never happened in the 4 years I have been living in Sydney’s Inner West.  I have these stress head neighbours which are running around all panicking and stuff outside and what should I do? Go for a walk? Go to the gym?

No way – I wanted to speak to you and share some insights about increasing the Quality & Value of your clients.

This is very relevant if you are say a Coach, Mentor, Consultant or in the Services game – the quality of your clients is a very critical part of how things work! I cover plenty of these concepts in my Premium Home Study Course The Awesome Marketing Vault (learn more here).

For me in my own business – this is my third going on fourth year as a Marketing Mentor & Consultant.  The first two years were really hard and third year onwards, things have really come together in mass way for me.

One notable perk I have today are the amazing clients I am attracting and very blessed to work with.  When I first started out I would honestly attract a mixed bag of clients. As per I and many of my peers in a similar boat, you just work with anyone (as you have too!).

Some of those people are awesome clients / channel partners today and it was unfortunate that I did pick up some “Not so Good” ones like anyone starting out business often does.  This was linked to my own lack of experience at the time and today I AM BLESSED to work with the best!  I trust these tips help you out big time:

1) Be More Valuable to Your Clients: This sounds obvious and it’s something to really keep in mind.  I am way better at my Consulting / Marketing ability that what I was 12 – 18 months ago.

2) Deliver more to Your Clients: I deliver way more to my clients in far less time that I used too.  I give them straighter answers, solve their problems at least double the speed I used too and I work faster.  This helps me increase my hourly rate so it’s great for everyone.

3) Improve the Quality of your Identity & Image: The Graphic Designers reading this post would love this one! Have great business cards, websites, materials and really, really look the part!

4) Be Selective with your Clients: I work with awesome clients these days who demand quality, appreciate quality and will pay for quality.  Some people just aren’t like that – which is great! They aren’t for you.

5) Look for Better Clients: Be it their earnings, company size, mindset or the like – it’s always great to be wary of who you are pursuing.  When I started out I would work with people who were still at work and caught up in “Get Rich Quick Schemes”.  Now, I work with people who own companies or awesome startups who are super serious!

6) Appreciate Yourself: This has been a tough one for me – make sure you are looking at yourself objectively.  I commonly think I am way worse than what I deliver which is not true! Make sure you don’t do that too.

7) Market better for more clients: If you get more clients coming in, you can afford to be more selective.  This means your revenues are great and you just don’t have to be as desperate as you once were!

Trust these tips out and keep up the great work.  I am very lucky to have an amazing base of Private Clients and if you are one of my old ones or an active one – thank you! Couldn’t have done it without you.

Tips for Writing Blog Articles that GO VIRAL! Thank you for 14,000+ Views!

Australia Day has been my best weekend. Two blogs go viral and it's inspired me to share some insights with you. Love your support and thank you!!

Australia Day has been my best weekend. Two blogs go viral and it’s inspired me to share some insights with you. Love your support and thank you!!

The Australia Day Weekend has been outstanding for me and I have been very blessed to be spending time with my new family.  I am also so very lucky to have 2 x Blog Articles go viral and get shared all over Facebook and get hundreds of clicks to my website.

Blogging is a very powerful technique indeed for connecting with people, demonstrating your expertise, getting people to share your content and ultimately get more sales.  I personally love it and in all honesty with you – it has taken me really a good solid year of blogging till the articles I have written have started to “Go Viral”.

This basically means that at times, I write a “Perfect Article” that just hits people and they feel compelled to share it.  I have had that luck with two of my own articles in a row really hitting the mark.  One was seen 14,000+ times on FB with the other being seen 4,000+.

Now before you think “Edward just got lucky and he is playing expert and trying to make out he is awesome” – that is a true comment! I did get lucky.  I blog almost every day and I write lots of articles.  Say a few times a month, I will just “Hit the Mark” and get that viral effect which is great.

Getting an article to go Viral is not an easy thing, however I have done my best to give you 7 x Tips to help you in this process:

1) You need an Extreme Point: My two articles that have gone viral have been me out Professing Australia is the best country on Earth and taking a shot at Radical Islam.  I have had some Marketing Articles go viral too as I really hit a rare point and gave some new knowledge which was great.  Come up with a radical point for yourself.

2) Continually Fire Out Content: This is what I have proven myself, you really need content going out all the time.  In my case, the probably of an article going viral is say 5% – so to get one going viral that’s 20 articles!

3) Use your Whole Social Media Platform: I have used everything to do this.  Facebook Boosted Posts, LinkedIn, Twitter and the lot.  You just can’t blog by itself and hope for the best – you need to share it somehow!

4) Make the Blog Header and Point very Compelling: The Headline and Graphics / Image you are using is just critical. You really want this to stand out and make a massive point and give people a reason to click!

5) Don’t always write about your speciality: I have had articles go viral in all areas and even though I am a Marketing / Sales Guy, I have written many articles about Geopolitics, people I like, Radical Islam and my days working for the Secret Service.  Always great stuff!

6) Write from the heart and tell the truth: I admit my mistakes and I haven’t made $100,000 in the past hour.  Don’t BS or lie or exaggerate.  Tell the truth.  People know it and respect you for it.

7) Start Trying and go for it: I have blogged very hard for a good 13 months now and I am starting to get really good at it.  It’s an artform that takes time and my first blogs were very rough. So get into it!

Love your work friends and thank you for the read – drop me a line of course if I can assist you!

Happy Australia Day? The “Angry Mob” of 800 at Lakemba using Free Speech to stop Free Speech!

During our Australia Day Weekend we had a so called ‘Peaceful Protest’ of people using Free Speech to Stop Free Speech. Challenging times and we must unite to protect our rights! (Courtesy and thanks to SBS for the image)

It’s a very different world that we live in with respect to what happens in our own lovely city of Sydney. After getting ready for the Australian Day Long Weekend, I see on Facebook that last night there was a so called “Peaceful Protest” in Lakemba (Western Sydney).

After watching the video on SBS (article here) I get more of the impression of an angry mob rather of Radical / Extreme Islamists trying to use Free Speech stop Free Speech.  The police also reported “moving on people” from the scene from disturbing the peace.  Really? I thought it was peaceful.  If people are disturbing the peace, I would think of it as an “Angry Mob” before anything else.

It’s really sad what I think is going on here from multiple viewpoints and I think we have to be very diligent with what is happening in our Free Speech.

Firstly, you have Extremist Muslims tainting our Awesome Muslim community with the same brush.  You can thank these idiots for why innocent muslims in the street are looked at with distrust and fear.  You can’t blame the Australian public for thinking that.

Secondly, you have “Free Speech” being used as a weapon to stop “Free Speech”.  In Saudi Arabia could we protest against the government? Sure – if we want to go to jail and be executed.  So here they can “Peacefully Protest” to reduce our rights.

Thirdly, I think the coverage of the event has been very questionable by the media. The media hasn’t been giving much coverage to peaceful Islam in Australia and giving too much time to these dangerous extremists.

Finally, not enough of the media isn’t talking about the “Pink Elephant” in our city.  We have 800+ possible Muslim Extremists in Western Sydney causing all sorts of problems.  How many of them are getting ready to pack their bags to go to Syria or plotting something else?

I think SBS are doing quite well with accurate reporting, but ABC? Give me a break.  They are a corrupt organization who are sticking to very “Left-Agendas” and truth isn’t something they are quite into.

We live in very trying times where people are on all sides trying to limit our Free Speech.  You have Radical Islam, Corrupt Media, Timid Government not saying what needs to be said – while all of us in between are being used as Pawns / Cards for whatever agenda they have.

Our Freedom of Speech and Liberty is really at stake in the whole World right now and it’s really important to keep this alive.  I don’t want to grow up in a world of Sharia Law as much as live in a world that is a “Police State” where you can’t say anything.

Between “Political Correctness” and people justifying the Charlie Hebdo massacre – we have got work to do to ensure that our children live in a fair and just world.

Happy Australia Day Weekend! We shan’t let these 800+ extremists take the edge of celebrating the best country on earth!

“Love it or Leave It!” – Happy Australia Day Weekend Friends!

I love Australia and this is THE BEST COUNTRY ON EARTH!

I love Australia and this is THE BEST COUNTRY ON EARTH!

If you are reading this article then most certainly the “Love It” component of my blog title applies to you.  Australian is the best country on Earth and it’s full of amazing people and I think it’s a testament to multiculturalism.

After all, how many places on earth do you have the diversity of people getting along? People that help out strangers? And of course beautiful beaches and scenery?

I really love Australia and I have proved it multiple times.  I have been in gunfights defending my country from people that hate it, I have paid my share of taxes fairly and as a “Civilian” today – I do whatever I can to prove I am a “Citizen” in terms of defending our values and our people.

The reality is today that there are some people that don’t love Australia.  In fact – they hate it, they hate us and they want us to fail.  In fact, some of them want us completely dead and wiped off the map.

I am not just taking an obvious shot at Radical Islam on this one.  I am taking a shot at anyone that gets up in the media and attacks Australia, attacks our values and does anything to damage our economy, borders or anything like that.

The Martin Place Tragedy, Julia Gillard forcing her Carbon Tax on the public, the Corrupt Labor Government flooding our shores with illegal “Immigrants” (and not leaving room for the real ones), Radical Islamist’s that try and divide us and the even more Anti-Australian Flag Burners at the ABC (the so called “Australian Broadcasting Corporation”).

Also, the fascism of “Political Correctness” is hurting Australia.  We aren’t allowed to discuss any issues that the delusional left don’t agree with as we get labelled as “Racists” or “Climate Change Deniers” or something like that.

This is the good part which makes me love Australia more.  PEOPLE AREN’T TAKING IT! Yes and this is something I love.  You are getting Mr & Mrs Public (as you can really see on Facebook) stand up for intolerance and people screwing with Australia.  Such as #illridewithyou to defend innocent people on our transport, people standing up to Radical Islam or just attacking the evil Labor Government when they come out with their lies and even better – tuning out of ABC as they spill their leftist propaganda rubbish.

I love the strength of our country and I want to say THANK YOU for reading this article! Be it you are reading this on the Friday night as I write this article or months / years later – I love your work and here here to the best country on Earth!

The Importance of Constructive Debate & Making Your Thinking MORE PROFITABLE!

Having a Great Debate can help create new insights, improve out thinking and give us time to ponder. Conflict is productive as long as we don't be an 'Eric Cartman' about it!

Having a Great Debate can help create new insights, improve out thinking and give us time to ponder. Conflict is productive as long as we don’t be an ‘Eric Cartman’ about it!

Today was a very inspiring afternoon for me in a lot of respects.  I have met with some great people today and I finished the day with a Committee Board Meeting with the Queen of Hearts Foundation.  The Foundation is lead by the Awesome Michele Ellery who is an advocate for helping Child Abuse Survivors deal with the fallout of that atrocities committed against them and also influencing Government & Policy to create better laws to protect them.

It was a great meeting and in protection of confidentiality of what we spoke about, we had a great debate in there.  Basically, (playing Marketer) I was encouraging / recommending us to go quite extreme with the messaging & wording – with everyone else counterbalancing me and taking more of a “Let’s not make waves just yet” type of viewpoint.

We are all friends and some bits got quite heated and it was quite funny.  I have a great deal of respect for the people I met with and it was great debate / discussion to have.  It ended with the sentiment not being to my quite extreme – however, there is great thought and discussion into making the messaging and Facebook Management more effective already.

I really did enjoy this from a range of viewpoints and what I have learned in Business, Marketing and the like is the critical importance of Debate.  A lot of people have trouble with debate in that they feel that if someone disagrees with them it’s an attack on them and their ego.  It very rarely is and the great thing is that we could give countering views, get a bit heated and then come together with great insights and improvements for the Foundation / Movement.

Bringing this back to more of a Small Business / Entrepreneur Context, it’s really important to allow our Trusted Friends to challenge our viewpoints, take on critical feedback and be open to stuff that from an “Ego” point of view that we don’t want to hear, BUT WE MUST hear for the betterment of our business and lives.  If you are a bit like how I used to be, when it comes to entering a debate there are a few pointers I would like to give:

1) Remember that Conflict is Good!

2) Conflict / Disagreement / Debate can lead to Great Ideas!

3) Turn off your Ego.  It’s not about you.

4) If someone else’s Ego is Bruised – just ignore it and keep going.

5) Get Passionate, not Angry.

6) Smile and keep changing your view.

7) Play to win the Debate with Intelligence, Facts, Fun and Goodwill.

I find when you take this approach, it can be a “Fun form of Heat” where amazing things can happen.

My advice and thinking? Gladly enter debates, enjoy them and use it as an opportunity to sharpen up everyones thinking / businesses!

Love your work and thank you for the read!

Matt Craig and the Awesome MindArc Team are Kind, Ethical and Wonderful People. Boy I love working with them!

I remember the way I used to think when I started out in my business in direct contrast to the way I think now in my business.  When I started out (quite reasonably) I remember being totally desperate for clients.  I was lucky to pick up some great people at the start.

I was also not so lucky to pick up some “Not so Great” people at the start too.  The “Great” people were very much just like me.  Hard Working, Kind, Respectful, Believe in Paying Invoices and would try and refer me work.

The “Not so Great” were the direct opposite.

They would use me for my time, knowledge and then do whatever they can to weasel out of paying their invoices. As I matured in my own business and then used my own lessons to support my clients – it became very evident (very quickly) that none of us just “Want Clients”.

We want Profitable / High Value / Ethical Clients that reflect our own values and integrity.  These days, I am very glad to be working with some amazing people.

What kind of prompted me to talk about this topic was the bittersweet emotions I have been through today.  I was thanking Jesus Christ for the great new clients I have picked up over the last 2 months.  They are kind, respectful, brilliant and lovely people – just like me and the best start to 2015 I could hope for.  They are happy, I am happy and my bank account is very happy.

On the sadder flip side of the coin I got a phone call from a colleague that I have a lot of respect for.  Keeping it confidential, they privately confessed to me the mistakes they made in their business last year.  They discounted, chased the wrong type of work and basically are in a lot of Financial Trouble right now.  They had a stack of their “Not so Great” type of clients not pay them over Christmas and they are struggling to stay afloat.

Understandably, the person felt a great deal of shame and in the 25 minutes I could spare till my next meeting – I gave them as much advice / support I could over the phone.  They will be fine and they have learned their lesson – but seeing their pain inspired me to write this post.

In short, you have to make sure you HAVE THE RIGHT CLIENTS in business.  You can have the best service, best products and best technology but let’s say you are selling to Tight Ass / Cheapskates or people without integrity that will get you to do lots of work – then try and con their way out of paying your invoices.  If say a massive chunk of your client base are like that – and let’s say they don’t pay, you can easily run out of money one month and be in lots of trouble.  This happened to my friend and I can only feel pain for them (but I think they will be fine thank God).

My advice and thinking? Be Ethical, Kind and Hardworking.  Then expect your Clients to be Ethical, Kind and Hardworking.  Only work with the best and give them the best.  Sure – starting out in business is always a challenge, but once you build your powerhouse client base – you can be more selective.

One of my oldest clients to this day (he was #2) is Matt Craig from MindArc Digital Agency.  Kind, ethical and brilliant – I am very lucky to have a great client base today who are just as awesome and him.  My dedication here!

Thank you for the read and love your work!

Last night, Business & Success Mentor Jude Dowsett and Edward Zia (yours truly) were very lucky to support our community taking on a very important topic (that we all deal with as business owners and entrepreneurs).  “Awesome Business Thinking for Fun, Money and Getting more Done!” was a hit with our audience and we covered some top thinking and strategies.

Even though my sandbox and focus is more Sales & Marketing – at times, I get a great deal of satisfaction from looking into mindset and taking a more general “Personal Development” type of focus.

The challenge of this area (and just being straight up with you) is that there is a great deal of misinformation out there.  You have high pressure motivational seminars, unethical selling and all these “Charlatans” that came with the 90’s Boom of “Motivational Seminars”.  Although I learned some really great ideas, I equally spent way too much money here that cost me later on.

In light of what Jude & I have both been through – we wanted to share with you the truth about our mistakes and top thinking to support you and help you kick butt in your business.  Please find our gift to you of the PDF / PPT Download, the Webinar Recording and also Jude’s Facebook Page with more free tools and inspirational stories.

Love your work and drop us a line if we can help!

Tips for Eliminating Sins of the Past & Making 2015 a Profitable Time of Success!

My colleagues, friends and myself personally have all make mistakes in business. It's good to admit our 'Sins of the Past' as soon as we can by fixing them and putting in new processes to make the business stronger!

My colleagues, friends and myself personally have all make mistakes in business. It’s good to admit our ‘Sins of the Past’ as soon as we can by fixing them and putting in new processes to make the business stronger!

I have made some big (fortunately not that big) mistakes in my business over the years.  The fact I am still around, growing and have lots of friends means my wins were way larger than my losses Thank God!

Not just me, but almost everyone I talk too (the rest aren’t telling the truth x x) have made mistakes in their business.  When it has come to Sales & Marketing – mine has been great (as I come from that background), however the Financial Management (which I consider myself quite good at now) was a massive issue for me in terms of building the skill set to effectively manage it.

This is my own example and if you are say about to go into business or established in business – you will probably be thinking about your own issues right now.  My clients for example mostly need help with their Sales & Marketing (hence they hire me), however not everyone has problems in that area.

What I find happens is that when we start our businesses, the truth is we make a stack of mistakes.  We do things that we may not be proud of, or they seemed good at the time but was a “Deal with the Devil”.  That is – we made our short-term easier by making our future harder.  Mine have been my fault – that is, I failed to have ‘Difficult Conversations’ early leading me to all sorts of problems later on.

Either Way, when it comes to dealing with our own mistakes and sins of the past, I hope these 7 Tips help you out as they did me:

1. Admit the Mistake! I won’t BS you, my Middle Eastern Ego stopped me on this one for a while but I got over it and admitted my errors in business.  This is the first step.

2. Turn Yourself Over to a Higher Power: It’s great to get people to help you in this area. I really messed up with Financial Control (basically spending too much and not ensuring people are paying me).  My Accountant and my Virtual Assistant were great that really assisted me in this area getting a handle on it.

3. Put a Plan in Place: In my case, I once had $30K owing to me.  No kidding, what a stuff up I made and I put a plan in place and fixed it all up over about 6 months.  It was hard, but worth it and now the business is super healthy.

4. Make Difficult Decisions: I had to make some difficult decisions in my case.  It involved finishing up a lot of relationships where I was losing out of and then getting out there and meeting a stack of new awesome people.  Now it’s rocking!

5. Take the short-term pain: Rip off that Band-Aid I say! Does it hurt? Yes – you may have to hire some people to help you out and pay the money – but think of the business health and the long term.

6. Put Processes into Protect You: With thanks to my Virtual Assistant Lauren and Simona the Accountant – like if good. They really helped me and also my business is stronger to protect against it.

7. Smile & It Happens! Don’t blame yourself or feel bad (like I did for a while).  Business is hard, we often to have to make decisions with only 20% of the facts and that is life.  Fix it up, move on and smile!

I trust these tips help and you may have all sorts of issues / Sins of the Past going on.  Hire someone to help you, that is – their Strengths fit perfectly the Weaknesses you are trying to resolve.

Love your work, thank you for the read and you ROCK!
