Dave Powers is a very well liked and highly respected in the community. Pumped with what lies ahead!

A good 6 – 8 weeks ago I seriously ramped up my business networking. Don’t get me wrong; it was ‘okay’ in terms of going to an event or two a week, but ‘okay’ is not a word I like to be associated with.

I actually did a massive review of where I get my clients from and it basically worked out that they originate through three areas:

– Facebook

– Referrals

– Business Networking / Events

My Facebook and referrals are going incredibly well and the obvious opportunity / lowest hanging fruit was the business networking / side of things.

This included meeting more people, hitting events and really interacting with people on a great level and getting more connected. As you go about this you meet lots of people.

And I mean lots of people!

If I go to an event, I will meet at least 20 people. This can result in 60 people a week (say if I hit 3 events) and it can seriously add up over time. As you meet people you can develop all sorts of different reactions. Some you feel connected too, some you feel neutral and some tend to rattle your cage.

This is where business can be a numbers game in the sense that in order to meet the ‘right’ people, you have to meet lots of people! The other interesting point as well is that the best people are usually very popular and well liked by everyone. One great example of someone who I have heard rave reviews about (for quite a while) is Dave Power from Power Creative.

We connected over Facebook originally and then a few days later by rapid coincidence we met at a Business Chamber Event. We clicked, got along great and it was just today that we met for a fine lunch at Parramatta Leagues Club.

He is a seriously cool guy and someone that I can see having a trusted video partner. This is based on his reputation, quality of work and the fact that we get along and see eye to eye on many issues. This is great and the key insight that I was reminded of today was that how it can take quite a while to find someone you ‘click’ with.

I actually met quite a few video people across Sydney and finding that situation where both sides click can be a challenge. The solution? Get out there, explore, meet people and get into it.

Finding great partners, clients, friends and the like is really a ‘serious’ search in that you can’t expect yourself to hit an event and strike the jackpot. It’s a gradual process of getting into the business scene, meeting people, listening, going for great coffee chats / lunches and finding that connection.

Since I have ramped up my meetings / visiting events it has seriously transformed my business. It has augmented my Facebook just beautifully and been a hit.

My advice? Get out there and explore! Meet people. Find someone that you click with you clicks with you. The win / win mutual street of like is everything and the people are out there. As for the awesome Dave Powers, I look forward to many great things to come (watch this space).

Love your work, thank you for the read, thank you Dave Powers and stay awesome friends!
