Going straight to the top

Elise Wilson – she already owns the goddamn city!

On March 7th 2015, I was working out at an Anytime Fitness. I started getting quite into fitness then and in those days; I was a big fan of those cross-training machines.

They project you up quite high in the air and as I was into my cardio routine, I heard a polite, feminine and very strong person to my left say hello (I often drink coffee and work out, making me a very obvious target).

As I looked down, I saw a pleasant (yet very strong smile) from a what struck me as an incredibly fit trainer. She was say hello to me and being very upbeat and considered.

Her name was Elise Wilson and she handed me her card. 

As we kept talking, we ‘clicked’ very quickly and started trading our lives stories. I was quite impressed quickly in that at the time, she explained to me she had just been in Sydney for 6 weeks. She found herself here falling on some hard times and living in different places across Australia looking for a new start.

That was exactly my own story 10 years ago and I even recall that we spoke a bit of marketing. I took a photo of us to go on my own Facebook Business Page, invited a stack of my friends to like her new page and gave her a few great tips on the house to point her in the right direction Marketing Wise.

We became pals and both of our lives went through astronomical change for the better and stayed in contact over Facebook. I met my amazing wife to be, purchased my first home, moved away, got a cat, business grew and my whole life changed for the better.

What happened however is that here and there; I would hear about the amazing Elise Wilson. Lots of people would know her and spoke of her highly. Elise took my advice at the time and got heavily into Facebook Video and Posting (if anything, lots of her videos are way cooler than mine).

I even MCed at a recent event and one of the people there even knew Elise! Everyone seems to know here and it blew me away in thinking that this ‘out of towner’ in just 18 months has got herself known in the business scene.

Without even having to ask awesome Elise, I can tell you how most likely how she is going straight to the top so quickly:

– Passionate Expert in her work.

– Uses Facebook and Social Media incredibly well.

– Actively involved in the community.

– A hardworking indefatigable character.

– ‘Walks the talk’.

In summary, it wasn’t some ‘secret strategy’ or magical turn of luck that put Elise on the map. She did it herself through consistent application, marketing and focus every day.

My lessons and learnings from her? Don’t get too worried about where you start out. I came into this town a nobody and everyone knows me these days. Keep at it everyday, push yourself, get out there, meet people and put great content on Social Media. If you do that all the time – success is the most likely outcome.
