Hello Awesome People!
I always get worried when I hear from Clients or people that “Hang their Hat” on just one type of Marketing Strategy. Be it they think “Webinars”, “A Free Event”, “Facebook” or “Business Networking” will save their Business and turn them into millionaires or whatever the case may be.
We often hear about this Issue when it comes to money and very rarely when it comes to Marketing. If you read some of my previous posts, I have had Technology driving me nuts lately. Facebook has been driving me crazy (with some changes to its back-end impacting my campaigns), LinkedIn is forever changing and even my Phone yesterday, went through a lengthy upgrade that just didn’t seem to stop.
A fellow, more traditional Marketer who I have lots of Respect for by the name of John Eustace made a great comment on my post yesterday basically talking about this Exact topic. If I can paraphrase what he said – it was basically a remark to the effect of that “If you are Reliant on technology and it Fails, you are Dead”.
This was such a good insight and as my Facebook Advertising Campaigns have been playing up lately – I realized this is totally dead on the truth (my LinkedIn once played up a year or so ago when they disabled my profile!).
Basically, I thanked my own Brain and lucky Stars for having a good Diverse Marketing Program. I have a range of Strategies in place, covering Referral Networks, Blogging, LinkedIn, Email Marketing, Business Networking, Live Webinars, Free Events to even out the weight, which works Awesome.
Basically, if one of them goes down or is temporarily offline – I can then Rely more on the other Marketing Strategies to support me. Change this to say someone who is only Reliant on appearing #1 in Google. You only need Google to change their Algorithm tomorrow and you can find yourself #200+ (or worse).
Right now I am in the Process of speaking to Facebook to get my Advertising Account back online. I know it’s an error, it will take Time – but I will get it back eventually. If this was my only Marketing I would be Dead Meat now. Thank god it’s not.
My advice and learning? Always have Backups and a range of Marketing & Sales Strategies that work for you. You never know when something out of your Control can “Take You Out” tomorrow – so other Strategies become more Vital to depend on.
