The wonderful Scott Heiferman, CEO and Co-Founder of Meetup. Great to meetup with the Meetup guy!

This is coming up to my second weekend back, after my life changing trip to New York as part of the Meetup Togetherfest Conference.

I was extremely grateful to be invited to attend and flew all the way from Australia. It was great being one of their VIPs and whilst I played hard to support them, they returned the love to me in multiples.

In this whole trip, I knew I had a short amount of time to do lots of stuff. I got really fit prior and I only had a few days to do what I needed to do.

As this was the case, I was amped up and in the zone on the ‘love bug’ for what I do. My perception was really high and I didn’t miss a beat. In many situations there, I would have a moment to catch someone. If you miss that moment, you don’t get to connect with that person and all these infinite possibilities are now lost.

Be it speak to someone high up there, make a new friend, that split second where I could swap a business card or connect with someone; I had to move fast.

This taught me massive lessons in terms of my general business networking in that when you see an opening to speak to someone, you must take it fast. If you don’t, someone else will get in before you and then you are out of the race.

My advice and thinking? If you see someone you want to speak too, please don’t be ‘polite’ and back off. That is great way of never meeting them.

Get in there, shake their hands, say hello and connect. I was able to meet some great people, including the wonderful Scott Heiferman (CEO & Co-Founder of Meetup). He is a popular guy in demand and I took a few chances and was able to connect with him. A top wonderful connection to have. Make sure you move fast. Don’t hesitate. Just do it and win big.

Love your work, thank you for the ready and thank you Meetup!
