I think it was last week when I was either sitting at my desk staring into the ether for inspiration or jumping from train to train when I got a message from a kind man over Facebook.
He said to me about needing help for a workshop and I was quite interested. We spoke over the phone and this guy new all about me. He knew who I was, what I did and I bet he even knew I was a closeted Trump supporter.
What I instantly picked about this man was a strong sense of kindness which sometimes can be rare on the mean streets of Sydney.
His name was Peter Kristensen from Rapport Leadership and he told me about them needing a Marketing Educator for an upcoming workshop.
I thought, “Why Not?” he’s a nice guy and I am going to take the punt.
The workshop was awesome! It was with Hills Shire Council through the Smart Series program which are workshops to help small business owners succeed in a range of areas. I immediately noticed that Peter was so into what he does. He greeted people, he worked his butt off from the first to the last moment and he was entertaining, passionate and really knew what he was doing.
You can actually say I was impressed (which is hard for me). I was taking notes and learning from the best and I started really thinking why this guy is so good? There is lot of reasons, but in short I think it’s because:
– Peter totally loves what he does for a living beyond the money.
This makes sense to me actually in that you can tell when someone is doing something just for the bucks and someone has a genuine love / passion for their work. I have found over the years that the people in it for the money, usually don’t make as much!
The people that really love what they do make the big bucks and it makes sense. (Like me) they are the type of people that stay up late at night learning more about their craft. Hence the become better and make more money.
My advice and thinking on this one? Do what you love. Make sure your job / business is something feel passionate about beyond the dollars because that is what makes it fun, turns your life into a holiday and will keep you powering through those long nights / early mornings with satisfaction.
I don’t have to be a client of Peter Kristensen’s to know that he is brilliant. The passion and what I saw today is all the proof I need.
Do what you love and be passionate about it. Success will be a byproduct of that.
