Tweek from South Park (I love that show) is this kid who is addicted to caffeine and always on edge about everything. Coffee is great, but fatigue is not a good friend of Sales & Marketing!

Even though I am hardly sleepy right now right now (but I really do NEED COFFEE!) I can certainly relate to being tired in business. That is, you have say been up to mid-night before working on client projects, living on junk-food, you partly have a cold you are getting over and you wake up 6AM the next day.  You can at times wake up feeling like you haven’t slept at all with a massive day of awesome clients ahead of you.

Even though I argue this is a great problem to have in business (I have been unemployed before which is way worse), you don’t have a lot of time with a lot of demands placed on you.

This can be for positive reasons in that you have landed a massive client with a project that is due quickly or for not so positive reasons in that you need to get more clients to make you comfortable in business.

Either way there are times you are going to be tired and exhausted! For me, my workload has been great and there have been some peak times which happens to any business.  I have delivered each time and this whole experience has given me a great insight into the “Feast / Famine” cycle that many Small Businesses can go through.

You market really hard – get tons of work, get it done, get tired, market less, work finishes up and then ouch! You have no money in your account and back to marketing against.

What I have learned and worked through in my own unique way is still Selling and Marketing Effectively while I am tired and feeling depleted at times.  I think this is partly mindset and also partly automation / process.

The mindset component is loving your business, your life and making sure you are productive in your thinking.  That is, if you say hate your work – 30 minutes is hard.  If you love your work (as do I) working 30 minutes past Mid-Night can be quite easy.

Secondly the “Automation / Process” side of Sales & Marketing is just as important I find.  For me, my Blogging (such as what you are reading now), my Facebook Campaign, LinkedIn Exposure and all those tools are working for me in the background.  So let’s say I am really tired and I miss a Business Networking event – it’s fine as I have my Marketing Working away in the background for me 24 / 7.

My advice? Life in the Modern World is busy and at times YOU ARE GOING TO BE FLAT OUT.  Even the massive millionaires I work with experience the same thing at times and this isn’t going to change anytime soon.  However, it’s important you enjoy your downtime, really automate your Sales & Marketing as much as you can so it just makes things easier.
